چکیده

Scores of 83 pairs o f twins and their parents on the Cubes Comparison Test have been analyzed to test competing hypotheses about the origin o f individual differences in spatial orientation. Models allowing for polygenic sex-linked or sex-limited gene expression show no improvement in fit over the simple autosomal additive polygenic model. However, individual environmental influences (E 1) account for twice as much variance in males as in females.

I-43: Identification of SOX3 as an XX MaleSex Reversal Gene in Mice and Jumans

Background: Mammals utilise an XX/XY system of sex determination in which the Y-linked gene SRY (Sexdetermining region Y) exerts a dominant masculinising influence on sexual development. Sex chromosome homology and comparative sequence studies suggest that SRY evolved from the related SOX3 gene on the X chromosome, although there is no direct functional evidence to support this hypothesis. The ...

I-49: Human Y Chromosome ProteomeProject

The success of the Human Genome Project (HGP) has provided a blueprint for the approximately 20,000 gene-encoded proteins potentially active in all of the hundreds of cell types that make up the human body. Yet we still have limited knowledge about a majority of the gene-encoded proteins which are the “building blocks of life” and “cellular machinery”. It is estimated that for nearly half of th...

Genome and Hormones: Gender Differences in Physiology Invited Review: Sex-based differences in gene expression

Ostrer, Harry Invited Review: Sex-based differences in gene expression. J Appl Physiol 91: 2384–2388, 2001.—Certain diseases are more prevalent among women than men. The reasons for this increased prevalence are unknown, but there could be a genetic basis. Increased expression of X-linked genes in females, protective effects of Y-linked genes in males, or sex-limited gene expression that is dev...

Prenatal sex determination in suspicious cases of X-linked recessive diseases by the amelogenin gene

Objective(s):To determine the fetal discernment in suspected cases of sex linked recessive disease in the first trimester of pregnancy. Materials and Methods: After collection of 100 Chorionic Villi samples, the DNAs were extracted and baby gender was determined. Meanwhile, after increasing the sensitivity, the system was able to detect the sex of each cell which was obtained by biopsy. Resul...

The Role of the Y Chromosome in Brain Function.

In mammals, sex differences are evident in many aspects of brain development, brain function and behaviour. Ultimately, such differences must arise from the differential sex chromosome complements in males and females: males inherit a single X chromosome and a Y chromosome, whilst females inherit two X chromosomes. One possible mechanism for sexual differentiation of the brain is via male-limit...
